Vectorworks Design Summit 2018

I did not take many pics at the Vectorworks Design Summit but I did have a great time. This was a HIGH concentration of serious VW nerds.

Vectorworks did not stint on content, quality, or general fanciness. The summit was at the gorgeous Wild Horses Pass resort. The landscaping was amazing. Oh, actually on my way there from the airport of course one of the first hits I noticed was all the saguaro cactus. They are so majestic! Also, all along the highways there are huge rock-lined arroyos. I’m kind of imagining that they might be terrifying during a downpour.

Of course the schedule was absolutely packed and I didn’t have too much time to wander around. The desert landscaping is so different than what I am used to. the colors and textures, all the stone work was so warm and inviting but also stark, if that makes sense.

Anyway, back to the nerds. One of the keynotes was given by an architect named Antoine Predock. I was VERY inspired by his drawings and I immediately hopped online and about one of his books. And they have put his keynote on YouTube (https://youtu.be/LR6vonNDEGc?si=vherKAfu22kehOdk). I do have to say I always have a moment of like, "okay old dude who zoomed about Europe on a motorcycle in 1966 for a total of 15 dollars. Good for you, so happy for you, and also, fuck off" that is the very bitchiest part of me though. I will never get to do that and I am envious. He talked about Sense of Place and thinking of the landscape as a character which really resonates with me.

The whole conference was very vibrant, everyone excitedly talking and geeking out. I went to some great sessions and one funny thing is that I got to meet and go to sessions from people whose youtube tutorials I have been watching for years. lol. Anyway, I have BIG plans for developing worksheets and really getting to know how to use this feature.

They fed us really well, which is very important. The party on opening night was also pretty epic. Open bars, smores, and fireworks for the win!! Another thing that is always important to me is swag. They had great stickers and buttons!

There was a terrible moment when I got back to my room from the party I got absolutely horrendous hives. I was seriously freaking out and not sure if I should call an ambulance. Instead I just took a shit ton of Benadryl and called my sister so I would be on the phone with her while I died.

I did not die.
